Drive to Work this Morning

WOW .. what a way to start a morning. I was almost to work when I turned into a turn lane, at the same time I turned into the turn lane a guy on a bike LOOKING THE OTHER WAY, pulls out of the middle of traffic into my path, I swerve to miss hitting him straight on, but he still ends up hitting the side of my car and killing my antenna .. Jesus .. I’m just glad that he and his bike were ok ..

I don’t mind people riding bikes, in fact I think its a good idea, but for those of you out there that ride bikes, remember that you should be obeying the same laws as the drivers! STOP at Stop Signs, Use your hand signals to make turns and BE SAFE!

I heard that thump as his bike hit the side of my car and could only imagine the worst as I saw the bike fall…

  20. This city’s cyclists are worse than its drivers. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a cyclist in my neck of the woods obey ANY sort of laws, INCLUDING stop signs and red lights! And then they have the nerve to call into radio stations complaining that their lives are on the line because of all the stupid drivers out there.
Thank goodness this morning didn’t turn out worse for both of you!

  77. I hate saying this because I’m with you – bike riding is a good idea – but I swear to god, the people who ride them! On campus they are insane – not only do you regularly see the kind of moronic “owning of the road” behavior (y’know, NOT LOOKING and ASSUMING cars will stay out of their way) but they freaking ride their bikes all over campus and practically mow pedestrians over. I’ve heard of more than one collision between a bike rider and some unsuspecting walker, neither of whom were paying attention.
Glad you’re okay. At the least, you had the law of gross tonnage working in your favor. 😀

  115. Ahh I like that law .. well at least in this situation .. in the normal course of events every idiot with a massive SUV would have the right of way ..
Perhaps a new law should be written “Law of Gas Mileage”, where whoever has better gas mileage should be allowed the right of way? Of course in that case I suppose the bike rider would have the right of way.
